I think Showtime has a multi-year exclusive to the show, but after that, yeah.

Only in what we've seen so far. There were small kids (8-12) in the Clarefield marketplace during the robbery, hiding under the crates, and there's a baby being born in an episode forthcoming, "To Sail Beyond the Stars."

this Friday at 10:45 p.m. on Showtime [March 8th]. (This will be the show's regular
timeslot starting next week, with "Man of Iron, Woman Under Glass" airing on
the 15th. It should be particularly fun for comics fan, given the first half
of that title and how it plays in the story....)

That's the problem with all-or-nothing POVs. I never said that I wasn't interested in writing MJ. What I said, repeatedly, was that I wanted to clear away the board for a while so I could concentrate and finding who Peter Parker/Spider-Man was on his own terms. He'd been so thoroughly surrounded and basically supplanted by guest cast that he had become a supporting character in his own book. My theory was always to get everybody else out the door for a while, clarify his character, and then slowly begin to reintroduce characters like MJ and JJJ (who appears in the script for #40).

Just as an FYI on this week's [3/22] episode, "And the Gound, Sown with Salt"...this is one of the hardest things I've written, and may be one of the best. It's just totally unrefuckinglenting, there are some great performances...it's a tough episode that takes stuff right to the wall. It's one of my favorites.
(On the annoying side...fell Saturday and fractured and sprained my left ankle, AND fractured and dislocated my right ring finger, so I may be typing even less than usual for a bit.)

Nothing, actually. It aired on a Sunday night when the SF audience generally isn't around, according to Showtime, which given that scenario was actually quite encouraged that we did that well...and most important, we built in audience every quarter hour. The real test would be the hour series itself....
And both Showtime and MGM called to offer congratulations on our first ep. Stargate, airing a brand new episode right before us, with an established audience, pulled a 2.9 and a 5 share, excellent by pay cable standards.
Our first real ep out of the box *also* got a 2.9 and a 5 share, AND it also grew by quarter hours, ending up at a 3.1 for the last quarter hour, indicating again that we hold viewers and add as we go, a very good thing.
So everybody's happy.

Hey, whatever happened to the idea of writing a B5 one-shot for Wildstorm?
There should be something announced about that shortly.
And also, what about your show-in-development for Sci-Fi, Polaris?
Currently revising the scripts, but delayed by the hand problem which slows me down a lot.
And will your comic anthology Dream Police ever happen?
Plans are for Top Cow to do it as a one-shot; DP was never itself planned as an anthology, but rather one issue *in* that anthology.

I accidentally deleted the poster's question, but he was basically asked if JMS was getting tired of all the B5 discussions and general hype around B5 in general. Did he feel it was an albatross.

Have I grown tired of B5? Is it an albatross around my neck? No, not at all.
In 18 years of writing and, later, producing television, I have worked on a dozen series and written well over 200 produced episodes of TV (not counting 8 TV movies). They include such high-visibility shows as the Twilight Zone, Murder She Wrote, Walker Texas Ranger and others.
But for me, Babylon 5 always stands a head higher than the rest of them, because of the sheer amount of work, commitment and time that went into it,
and the overall quality that resulted. Sometimes I look back at it all and I'm just astonished that we were actually able to pull off something of that
magnitude. Sure, it was uneven in places, often breathtakingly no, but no one in American TV had ever even tried to pull off something on that scale, it had never been done before, so we were inventing the form as we went along.
And the show has persevered. From the time it went on, it has been running continuously, year after year, on one network or another, for about eight
years now. It's still running in over 120 countries around the world, including the most recent addition, Japan, which started showing B5 about a month ago and where it is rapidly becoming a hit with SF fans there all over again. Every
few days there's a new wave of email from people just discovering the show for the first time.
I'm unspeakably proud of what we did with that series.
If you're detecting fatigue in my posts of late, it's because we're coming to the tail end of production on Jeremiah, which though not as story-complex as B5, has been a far more complicated and heinous production on a physical
level, beating anything I've worked on before by several orders of magnitude. Each time I do a full season of a TV series, I start breaking down physically toward the end of it, the extent of that determined by how difficult the show is. In this case, for over two months recently I was down with the Martian Death Flu (disguised as Panama A Influenza), which led to pharyngitis and a fairly
awful ear infection, and the *day* I finally got over that I fell and fractured/dislocated stuff...it's going to take long physical therapy to get this hand back to where it needs to be (assuming that's possible, the dislocation was pretty grotesque)...so I'm just plain tuckered.
I'm going on at length here about this only because it's important to me to make the distinction above. When you think Rod Serling, who did a lot of shows, you think "creator of The Twilight Zone"...when you think Roddenberry, who did a lot of shows, you think "creator of Star Trek." Each was the high-water mark of their career. I've done a lot of shows, but when the game is finally called on account of darkness, the obit will read "...creator of Babylon 5."
And I won't mind a bit.

I just read an article about Scifi announcing a bunch of new miniseries, movies, and shows (most of which sound kind of crappy); but they made no mention of Rangers. Does this mean it's over, or are they still negotiating? I just wish someone would tell us what's going to happen, whether it's good news or bad.
The SciFi Channel has indicated that it's moving away from space shows, with all the hardware/alien stuff that goes with it. (This as per its recent
announcement about upcoming shows.)
So it looks like Rangers isn't going to go ahead. They haven't said it directly, but networks never do.
